Vegas and Drew's Birthday

Wow...I am so behind on life right now. I don't know what is happening but I feel like I have so much to do but no desire to do any of it. I guess that's what happens around here when the weather starts getting warmer.

Anyway...three weeks ago I drove home and surprised my family with a little visit. No one at my house knew I was coming home (just Sarah and Cydni) so I was really excited. Matthew was the one to answer the door. He looked at me and said, "why are you here?" I was expecting an excited reaction or a hug or SOMETHING but no. Just confusion. haha That's ok...I still loved being home and I am pretty sure my family enjoyed it too.

That weekend was Drew's birthday. The big 18. He had a bunch of friends over on Saturday night to celebrate so, on Friday, I helped my mom get ready for everything.

My favorite treat at the party was this flavored popcorn from this cute new store in Vegas called the Popcorn Girl. They have every flavor you can think of. It's incredible and it tastes so freaking good! For Drew's party we had six flavors...white chocolate, spicy buffalo wings (my favorite), watermelon, green apple, caramel corn, and blueberry.

It's colorful and delicious. A super fun idea for any party I think.

On Friday my mom and I also got the decorations for Drew's cake. He just wanted a yellow cake with chocolate frosting...but we wanted to make it a little unique. We stole this idea from one of the cake books at Jo-Ann's.

We melted chocolate and then painted it on the inside of mini-cupcake holders so it cooled in the ribbed shape of a cupcake holder. Then we baked mini-cupcakes to go inside of them. Then...we iced them and decorated the cake with them. (oh and when I say 'we' I mostly mean my mom...I am really good at watching) I think they turned out super cute and of course they were delicious.

Drew decorated the party with a Transformers theme. He had Transformers party supplies and balloons in Transformers colors. One of his gifts was even a Transformers 'laptop'. Super funny. He loved it of course.

On Sunday Drew had his family party. This was probably my favorite part of the weekend. I love being around my family. My extended family is all so close I consider them part of my immediate family. Drew got his luggage, some new clothes, tools (in a way cool green color...they totally beat my blue ones...but I guess color does not determine function and mine work incredibly well) and other fun stuff.

Drew with some of the cousins (probably the ones that would cooperate for a picture at that point) showing off his tools.

I love going home and it was even better to be able to celebrate a birthday while I was home. I don't know when I will get to go home next (Drew's graduation maybe? my birthday?) so I really cherish the time I get to spend there.

HAPPY (very belated by now) BIRTHDAY DREW!

p.s. this is my 100th post! thanks for reading all!!!

It is Done

It's official. I just signed up for the Salt Lake City half marathon! As much as I love running I have never done a half marathon before so I am super excited about this one. I hope it is the first of many. I now have less than a month to get ready for a nice 13.1 mile experience. If you aren't busy on April 17 and feel like giving me some emotional support (or running with me!) I would love it. haha

Update!

Wow...it has been a while since I've blogged. I don't know what happened...things just randomly get busy. I have a lot to blog about though...so get ready. Before those posts...some thoughts to prove I am still alive and capable of blogging :)

recent loves...
...I am obsessed with this one particular shade of yellow. You know...the darker, deeper shade that is popular right now? I used to not like yellow...I felt it was one of the more useless colors (very much like the way I feel about purple...but I won't go into that) but this shade has me going crazy. I have gloves and a scarf in this color and I love them...but Provo is warming up (finally) so I need some summer yellow accessories

....speaking of summer accessories in yellow...these shoes are just calling my name AND its totally a good cause. They aren't a dark yellow...but they are still fun. Or maybe I want them in green...or red...or blue...oh I don't know. I just want them haha.

...I tend to go through phases in my music tastes and recently I have been obsessed with Train (yes dad...I know you "know" the lead singer haha). Their new album "Save Me, San Francisco" is fabulous. I may or may not have listened to it 50 times already.

things I'm excited for...

...Legally Blonde the Musical...THIS FRIDAY! Jordan and I are making a day out of it. When she gets out of class we are going to get manicures and pedicures, then go to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner and then go to the show! I could not be more excited. I love the music for this show...as cheesy as it is it has a great message...and has helped me get through many hard times.

...being done with my technical report. I don't usually stress about school that much (last week is a perfect example) but this report has been hanging on my mind all semester. It is due on Thursday and I'm happy to say it is almost done...all 22 freaking pages of it. I can't wait until it is fully complete, bound, and turned it. (and a big thanks to those I sent it to for revisions...you guys are fabulous)

...summer. I love the recent sunshine we have been having. As much as I love snowboarding (and my new green snowboarding jacket) I am getting sick of being cold all of the time. And...summer means no more school. Even though I am only a junior I am totally having senioritis. It's not good...especially because I have so much to do before the end of the semester (3 books to read, one paper to finish, one paper to write, one oral presentation to prepare and give, one group project to complete, and four finals to take).

Posts on my trip to Vegas a few weeks ago and my faux spring break last week - including a trip to Colorado - will follow soon (as soon as the internet here chooses to cooperate)

Musings in the Harold B. Lee

I shouldn't be blogging right now. I should be outlining my technical report on the comparison of treatments for uterine fibroids...but I'm not.

I think I'm on the hate list of everyone in the library right now because I can't stop coughing. Sorry people...I didn't ask to be sick. I want me to stop as much as you want me to stop. Stop staring. Thanks :)

I shouldn't have even come to school this morning. I had a class at 9:00 and I don't have another one until 3:00 because my 1:30 was canceled. I should have slept until noon...that would have been nice. Did I do that? No, I decided to be a good student and go to class. Am I happy that I went because looking back I wasn't actually that tired and I learned some very useful things in class? Nope...not really. I still wish I was asleep actually.

In other {good} news...I'm pretty sure I found a place to live next year. Yesterday I looked at a condo on University Avenue with a girl in my ward now. We loved it. So...we sent our deposit in and now we are just waiting for the paperwork to come to us. She has two friends that want to live with her too so it will be the four of us. I am excited to live in this new place. I feel really good about it and I'm super excited to get to know these girls better. I'm mostly just relieved that the search is over and I won't be homeless.

Next step...find a job for this summer (well a more immediate next step is to write this stupid outline)
